Published on September 13, 2019, a former Kiambu TNA Coordinator, Gladys Chania Mwangi, has been charged with obtaining money by false pretenses.
She was arraigned at the Thika Law Courts on Thursday, September 12, 2019, and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chania's past involvement with The National Alliance Party (TNA) in Kiambu dates back to before the party's merger with Jubilee Party in the run-up to the 2017 elections.
Currently, she operates a rehabilitation facility for alcoholics in Thika under the name Right At Home Rehabilitation Centre.
Prosecutors alleged that between April 2017 and 2018, Chania defrauded Eric Gathogo out of Ksh. 199,000 and Martin Mwangi Ksh. 200,000.
The court was told that Chania promised to help the complainants travel to the United States after making a down-payment.
Advocate Gathii Irungu, representing Chania, pleaded with the court to grant her a lenient bond.
She was released on Ksh. 80,000 cash bail or Ksh. 400,000 bond.
The case will be heard on October 8, 2019.
