On September 13, 2019, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Disputes Tribunal began hearing an appeal by Jubilee aspirant McDonald Mariga, a former Harambee Stars international, contesting his invalidation as a candidate for the Kibra MP seat.
The appeal was lodged after Kibra Returning Officer Beatrice Muli declared Mariga ineligible to contest due to his failure to register as a voter.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, along with commissioners Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu, are presiding over the tribunal, with an officer from the legal directorate serving as secretary.
Separately, Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen expressed his disappointment with Citizen TV's coverage of Mariga's case, accusing the station of being sponsored to influence the outcome.
Senator Murkomen took issue with Citizen TV journalists, including Ageyo, Gachuri, Kaikai, Okwara, and Mohamed, for criticizing Mariga's Twitter account, which he claimed was fake, and instead referred to his official account, @MarigaOfficial.
