President Uhuru Kenyatta is among 11 current and former heads of state who have been invited to attend the funeral of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe in Harare, Zimbabwe on September 14, 2019.

According to reports, Mugabe, 95, died on September 6, 2019, while receiving medical treatment in Singapore, and his body was flown back to Zimbabwe on September 11, 2019.

However, a dispute has arisen between the Mugabe family and the Zimbabwean government over where the former president should be buried.

While the government wants him to be buried in a hero's monument, the family wants him to be buried near his first wife, Sally, and other family members in their rural home in Zvimba.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed his condolences to the Mugabe family and has sent a delegation to attend the funeral.

On September 12, 2019, the Kenyan government lowered the national flag to half-mast in honor of the former Zimbabwean president.
