On September 13, 2019, a daring heist took place at Moyale Airstrip in Marsabit County, where an unknown amount of money was stolen while in transit to the Equity Bank branch.

According to police reports, three armed robbers ambushed a plane carrying cash from Nairobi, landing at the Odda Airstrip at around 1:30pm. The robbers, who were waiting at the airport, pounced on the cash and made off with two moneybags, leaving one behind.

The pilot told police that one of the gunmen pointed a pistol at him as his accomplices entered the plane and picked up the cash. The robbers then jumped onto a motorcycle at the airstrip's waiting bay and fled through a chain-link fence, with no injuries reported during the heist.

Police claim that there had been no prior security deployment to protect the cash on arrival at the airstrip. The investigation is ongoing, with police yet to determine the exact amount of cash stolen.
