On September 12, 2019, the European Commission announced a Sh286 million fund to support African small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in accessing European markets and ecosystems.
The fund aims to establish the Africa-Europe Innovation Partnership (AEIP), a platform that will link African startups with European startups, private sector players, and investors.
According to Maria Cristina, the EC Director for International Co-operation, the AEIP platform will facilitate technology transfer, access to markets, and skill development for African 'tech-preneurs.'
Speaking at a global symposium in Nairobi, EU Ambassador to Kenya Simon Mordue emphasized that the AEIP seeks to encourage the commercialization of homegrown solutions.
