On September 12, 2019, the European Commission announced a Sh286 million fund to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Kenya.
The fund aims to establish the Africa-Europe Innovation Partnership (AEIP), a platform that will connect African startups with European startups, private sector players, and investors.
According to Maria Cristina, the EC Director for International Co-operation, the AEIP will facilitate technology transfer, access to markets, and skill development for African 'tech-preneurs.'
Speaking at a global symposium in Nairobi, EU Ambassador to Kenya Simon Mordue emphasized that the AEIP seeks to encourage the commercialization of homegrown solutions.
Through the AEIP, SMEs in Kenya will have access to funds and professional assistance to expand their operations.
