On July 20th, 2019, Tob Cohen, a Dutch national and billionaire, went missing, and authorities suspect he is dead. His wife, Sarah Wairimu Cohen, is now facing murder charges in a Nairobi court.
According to the prosecution's charge sheet, Sarah Cohen is alleged to have killed her husband, Tob Cohen, on the night of July 19th and 20th, 2019, in Nairobi County, with the help of other persons not before the court.
On Thursday, the prosecution presented the murder charges against Sarah Cohen, and the court directed her to undergo a mental assessment before answering to the charges. However, her defense lawyer, Phillip Murgor, strongly opposed the mental assessment, arguing that there was no body of the deceased and that all documents must be served on the defense before the assessment is done.
Prosecutor Catherine Mwaniki submitted that there were witnesses who had come forward and needed to be protected, adding that the prosecution was satisfied with the evidence and had preferred the murder charge.
The matter will be heard on Monday, September 16, 2019.
Despite the allegations, Sarah Cohen has insisted on her innocence and released evidence of her husband's instability and mental health issues in a blog.
