On September 12, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta made a surprise visit to Kisumu International Airport, catching security chiefs and residents off guard.

According to a police officer who was present, the President arrived in a military chopper and quickly boarded his official jet, which flew him to Uganda for an official visit.

“He spent a very short time at the airport. He landed in a military chopper and quickly boarded the white Jet that flew him out of Kisumu,” said the officer, who wished to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the information.

The President's stopover only became public knowledge after civilians who witnessed his arrival shared photos on social media.
