Kenya's government is set to implement severe spending cuts to rein in a gaping fiscal deficit, according to acting finance cabinet secretary Ukur Yatani.
Speaking at a meeting to plan the government's budget for the next fiscal year, Yatani stated that the cuts would be 'brutal and sustained', with the aim of reducing the deficit to 3.5% of GDP by the 2022/23 fiscal year.
Additionally, Julius Muia, the principal secretary at the Treasury, predicted that economic growth would slow down to 6.0% this year, down from 6.3% in 2018.
