Former Taifa Stars coach Emmanuel Amunike has taken Tanzania to FIFA over an unpaid salary, according to reports.

Amunike, a Nigerian-born coach, had a contract with the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) that was terminated by mutual agreement after his team was eliminated from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

Amunike had led Tanzania back to the continental tournament after a 39-year absence, with their last appearance being in 1989 in Lagos, Nigeria.

The team had qualified for the tournament after defeating Uganda 3-0 in the qualifying matches.

Amunike had also coached the Nigerian national team, Super Eagles, to victory in the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and the 1996 Olympic Games.

He had also coached other top clubs, including SC Zamalek, Sporting Lisbon, and Barcelona, but a serious injury had prevented him from fulfilling his dream of coaching in Catalonia.

Amunike began his coaching career with the Nigerian U-17 team in 2014 and led them to victory in the FIFA U-17 World Cup the following year.

Amunike has now taken the matter to FIFA, seeking justice for his unpaid salary.
