On Wednesday, September 11, 2019, police in Machakos smashed a highway robbery cartel believed to have been behind a series of carjacking activities along the Konza-Machakos bypass off the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.

Three suspects, identified as Nicholas Ndunda Kakui, Patrick Musau Kakui, and James Malumbi Kamii, were arrested in a raid at their hideout in Kyamutheke Village, on the outskirts of Machakos Town.

Police recovered a mobile phone valued at Sh56,000, two car radio systems, car speakers, spikes used to deflate car tires on the road, and other assorted goods from the suspects.

Machakos Sub County Police Commander, Joseph Tenai, said the suspects were also involved in another robbery incident at Kapiti Plains on July 3, 2018, where a 30-year-old motorist was killed and a number of items stolen from him.

Tenai added that the suspects will be charged in court after police conclude investigations.
