Kenyan footballer Michael Olunga has made history by being named Japan's August Player of the Month in the Japanese League.
Olunga, 25, who has previously played for Tusker and Gor Mahia, has had a great run in Kashiwa Reysol this season, scoring three goals in a match against Renofa Yamaguchi.
Through a tweet, Olunga expressed his gratitude to God for the award and his teammates and coach for their support.
"First and foremost, I would like to thank God for this great honor. And also to my teammates and coach for their support, I have had a great game this month," Olunga tweeted.
Olunga also acknowledged feeling honored to receive the award from Resol for his outstanding performance in August.
"I felt honored because of the whole Resol family and fans, for a great game in August, where I scored three goals in a match against Yamaguchi on August 10, and also scored the winning goal in a match against Nagasaki on August 17. I was able to control the ball," Olunga added.
Olunga has now scored 14 goals this season.
It was earlier reported that Michael Olunga was named Harambee Stars captain during a friendly match against Uganda Cranes on September 8, where both teams drew 1-1.
