Published on September 12, 2019, StarTimes has announced its intention to facilitate agricultural transformation in Africa through custom content targeted at rural farmers.
The company's Vice General Manager for overseas business, Mr. Zhang Junqi, noted that digitalization is a key facilitating effort for knowledge sharing, but its penetration in Africa is limited due to lack of infrastructure.
Speaking at the 10th edition of the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) in Accra, Ghana, Mr. Zhang emphasized the importance of making broadcast platforms available for relevant educational content targeting the rural population.
StarTimes has initiated the broadcast of agriculture-related content from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), and other relevant resources, which have been localized in each country and broadcast in local dialects.
The AGRF is the world's premier forum for African agriculture, bringing together stakeholders to discuss and commit to programs, investments, and policies to achieve an inclusive and sustainable agricultural transformation across the continent.
With over 2,300 delegates in attendance, the forum focused on leveraging digital transformation to drive sustainable food systems in Africa, aligning with the Malabo Declaration (2014) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
