Residents in Central Kenya are on high alert following reports of the reemergence of the Mungiki militia group in the region.

According to eyewitnesses, a young man was killed on Monday, September 9, near the home of President Uhuru Kenyatta in Gatundu, Kiambu County.

The incident occurred after residents had gathered to protest the presence of the militia group in the area.

George Kibe, a resident who witnessed the incident, said that a group of youths armed with guns and machetes had attacked his family's home, killing his son and a dog, and injuring three others.

The Mungiki group has been linked to several violent incidents in the region, including the killing of a young man in December 2018.

Local leaders have warned of the group's resurgence, with Kiambu County MP Alice Wahome saying that the group had been using social gatherings to recruit new members.

Residents are now on high alert, with many fearing for their safety in the wake of the group's reemergence.
