On September 12, 2019, a brazen heist occurred at Odda airstrip in Moyale, Kenya, where three suspected robbers stole an unknown amount of money from an Equity Bank aircraft.
According to a police report, the aircraft, which was ferrying money from Nairobi, landed at Odda airstrip at around 1:35pm. The team on board consisted of the pilot, co-pilot, and a cash officer from Wells Fargo security company.
Upon arrival, the pilot went to check the fuel level, and three strangers emerged from behind the waiting bay. They were armed with a pistol and ordered the pilot and his team to lie on the ground.
“The other suspects forced the door of the aircraft open and removed two sacks among the three containing an unknown amount of money…” the report read.
The suspects used a motorcycle parked next to the waiting bay to escape, leaving behind the third sack containing an unknown amount of money. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects cut through the fence to escape.
It has also emerged that no prior security arrangements had been made by the Equity Bank Manager in regard to the consignment.
As of now, no arrests have been made, but three people have been interrogated as investigations commence.
