September 11, 2019, marked a significant day for the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as they issued a warrant for the arrest of Jane Wawira Mugo, a woman who has been masquerading as a top detective.

According to the DCI, Mugo is a serial criminal wanted for various crimes, including robbery with violence, personation, and threatening to kill.

Her crimes date back to 2015, when she was accused of detaining a man for hours and forcing him to pay Ksh 440,000. In the same year, she stormed the office of a victim's lawyer, detained him, and introduced herself as a police officer.

Further, she is accused of abducting a Nairobi businessman and locking him up in her office at Baba Ndogo, forcing him to pay a debt of Ksh 400,000. However, all cases were withdrawn under Section 204 of the Penal Code.

On December 12, 2016, her employees Isaac Ndirangu, Noreen Malala, and Michael Gita robbed a man of Ksh 90,000, which he had withdrawn from a bank after they introduced themselves as police officers.

Her latest crime occurred in August this year, when she drew a pistol and threatened to kill a man at New Muthaiga Estate, alleging that he was spying for a relative of the director in a company where she was the private investigator.

Despite previous victims reporting her crimes to the Spring Valley Police Station in February, nothing happened. She had threatened them with a gun and said no one could touch her.

A former editor noted, 'This woman has always posed to journalists as a private investigator and has been quoted many times as such.'
