On September 12, 2019, the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) announced plans to arrest football star Macdonald Mariga over alleged forged documents used in his application to contest the Kibra by-election.

Mariga had been denied clearance by the Independent and Boundaries Electoral Commission (IEBC) to run for the seat, but police sources revealed they had a case against him regarding the authenticity of the documents he presented.

According to the police, Mariga was in possession of a forged identity card stating he was born in 1975, which raised suspicions about his age.

Ironically, in 2003, Mariga was part of the Kenya Under-20 soccer team that was disqualified from CAF qualifiers for fielding an over-age player, which was later revealed to be Mariga himself, who was 25 years old at the time.

Now, 17 years later, Mariga is claiming to be yet to hit 30 years old, sparking questions about the authenticity of his documents.
