On September 12, 2019, a group of business leaders, including CEOs of major companies, sent a letter to Congress urging them to take action on gun violence.
The letter, signed by leaders of companies such as Airbnb, the Gap, Pinterest, Lyft, the Brookfield Property Group, and Royal Caribbean, among others, calls for stricter gun laws and the implementation of red-flag laws.
Red-flag laws would allow federal courts to issue temporary orders keeping guns out of the hands of individuals considered at risk of violence.
Some notable signers of the letter include Thrive Capital, whose founder, Joshua Kushner, is the brother of Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law, and Bain Capital, the private equity firm co-founded by Senator Mitt Romney, Republican of Utah.
While some of America's biggest financial and technology companies, including Apple, Facebook, Google, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo, were missing from the list, the letter is the latest example of the business community stepping into a sensitive political area during the Trump presidency.
