Published on September 12, 2019, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has maintained her stance in support of President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, calling on Central Kenya leaders to remain united and shun outsiders who seek to divide the Kikuyu vote for their selfish gains in 2022.

Speaking in Kerugoya, where she opened a new hospital wing, Governor Waiguru emphasized the importance of unity in the region, stating, 'I am urging all leaders from the region to remain united and shun those trying to introduce divisive politics in the area. We must guard this region at all cost since it is only here where disruption of public gatherings is occurring, and it continues to dent our community’s image.'

She also expressed her support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), saying it will give Kenyans an expanded executive, thus accommodating other communities in the country’s leadership. The BBI task-force is expected to release its report later this month, recommending the creation of the positions of prime minister and two deputies to ensure more communities are represented in the Executive.

While some Mt Kenya leaders have criticized Governor Waiguru for her stance, she remains unapologetic, stating, 'As leaders from this region, we will be guided by our Jubilee Party leader Uhuru Kenyatta on the best way forward at the General Election.'
