On September 12, 2019, the music world lost a legend when Juma Toto, the 70-year-old benga maestro, passed away at Kenyatta Hospital.
Juma Toto's song 'FC Gor Mahia' became an anthem for the 18-time Kenyan champions, released in 1970, two years after the club's formation.
The song's impact was immense, as it helped K'Ogalo dominate the local scene, culminating in their final appearance in the Africa Champions Cup in 1979 against Cameroon's Canon Yaounde.
Before his untimely death, Juma Toto had a storied career, working with Rumba legend Gabriel Omollo of the Blue Shades Band, and releasing the hit song 'Lunch Time' in 1976, which earned a Golden Disk Award for selling 150,000 records.
His niece, Dorcas Odumbe, announced his passing, stating, 'We are sad to announce that Juma Toto died last night at Kenyatta Hospital while undergoing treatment.'
