Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe's first leader after independence in 1980, has returned home after a private flight from Singapore, where he died last week at the age of 95.
Mr. Mugabe held power for nearly four decades before being ousted in a coup in 2017. His body arrived in Zimbabwe on a specially chartered flight, which landed at about 13:30 GMT.
A convoy of vehicles with 'RG Mugabe' number plates was seen next to the runway, and a crowd of people, some wearing the former president's image on T-shirts, awaited the arrival of the plane.
Mr. Mugabe's wife, Grace, was also on the flight, according to his nephew, Leo Mugabe.
The body will be taken to the family home known as the 'Blue Roof' in Harare, where it will lie in state at Rufaro Stadium on Thursday and Friday.
On Saturday, Mr. Mugabe will be laid to rest at a state funeral at the 60,000-seat National Sports Stadium in Harare.
However, the final resting place of Mr. Mugabe remains in doubt, with reports suggesting he might be buried at his rural home in a private event instead of at Heroes' Acre, a shrine in Harare for those who fought against colonial rule.
