On September 11, 2019, Airbus issued an Alert Service Bulletin instructing operators to inspect the interface between the engine and main gear box on certain helicopter models.

The move comes after a H125 helicopter crashed in Norway's far north near the town of Alta on August 31, killing six people.

About 400 aircraft are affected by the order, which Airbus estimates will require around one hour per helicopter to complete.

According to Airbus Helicopters, the inspection is a precautionary measure following initial findings by the official investigation into the crash.

"This is a precautionary measure in the light of initial findings by the official investigation," said Airbus Helicopters.

"We would emphasise that it does not imply that the root cause of the accident is known," it added.

Norway's Accident Investigation Board (AIBN) has called the bulletin an emergency alert, urging an immediate visual inspection of the affected area.
