On August 18, 2019, Geoffrey Khaemba, a 42-year-old father of two from Bungoma County, left his home in Lukhokhwe village, Tongaren to work in Mombasa with Exotank Transport Company.
He called his wife Susan Simiyu the next day, saying he had been assigned a job to transport cargo to Malawi.
However, on September 1, Susan received a phone call from the company informing her that her husband had been involved in a road accident and died on the spot.
The family was told that the company would make arrangements to transfer the body back to Kenya, but a week later, the body arrived at the Namanga border point without a head.
According to Susan, the body was moved to Kiminini morgue in Bungoma, where the family discovered the shocking truth.
Upon arrival at the morgue for viewing at 7am the next morning, they found that the body was without a head.
The driver claimed that he was unaware of the state of the body as he had only been instructed to deliver it to the family.
As per Busuku tradition, a body cannot be buried without the head, as it symbolizes the leadership of the home.
The family is now pleading with the Kenyan Government to assist them in getting the missing body part so that they can bury their kin.
