On August 28-30, 2019, Japan made a significant commitment to Africa during the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in Yokohama, pledging $20 billion in private investment.

The funds will be allocated towards developing quality infrastructure, supporting agriculture, industry diversification, and advancing education and universal healthcare in Africa.

Japan's development model prioritizes people at its core, aiming to utilize local human resources and prevent projects from increasing recipient countries' debt to unsustainable levels.

The TICAD VII conference, attended by over 50 African Union member states, including Kenya, was led by President Uhuru Kenyatta's delegation.
