On Tuesday, Peru pulled off a stunning upset over Brazil in Los Angeles, securing a 1-0 victory that marked Brazil's first defeat in over a year.

The win ended Brazil's 17-match unbeaten streak, which began after their 2018 World Cup campaign in Russia.

Peru's late goal, scored by Luis Abram with six minutes remaining, proved to be the decisive factor in the match.

Abram capitalized on a free kick opportunity, nodding the ball past goalkeeper Ederson to seal the win.

Brazil, who had beaten Peru in the Copa America final just two months prior, started the match without several key players, including Neymar, Dani Alves, and Thiago Silva, who were all rested.

Despite the absence of these players, Brazil's Richarlison was a force to be reckoned with, forcing Peru's goalkeeper Pedro Gallese to make a crucial save.

However, even the introduction of Neymar and other attacking players in the second half could not lift Brazil, who ultimately fell to Peru for just the fifth time in 46 games.

According to Brazil's full back Fagner, the team's defeat was a result of their inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities, particularly from dead ball situations.

“We had chances and they punished us from a dead ball situation,” Fagner said. “It’s a learning process and we’ll grow from this, defeats happen and we need to take what we can from it.”
