Published on September 11, 2019, the Kenya Airports Authority has announced plans to expand Malindi International Airport to meet growing demand.
The airport currently sits on 100.6 hectares of land, but the second phase of the expansion will require an additional 158.4 hectares to accommodate bigger commercial aircraft and direct international flights.
According to the KAA, the expansion will also extend the runway from 1.5 kilometers to 2.5 kilometers and ensure the security and safety of the facility.
Tenders for the expansion of the runway have already been advertised and awarded.
