On September 10, 2019, Brazilian police in the state of Sao Paulo announced they had indicted Najila Trindade, the woman who accused soccer star Neymar of rape, on charges of fraud, extortion, and slander.

The indictment comes after prosecutors dropped the case against Neymar in August 2019, citing a lack of evidence. Neymar had alleged that the encounter with Trindade in a Paris hotel room in May was consensual.

Trindade's lawyer expressed surprise at the indictment, stating that his client rejected the accusations. The case received widespread attention and posed sponsorship headaches for Neymar, as well as affecting his international career.

Neymar had always denied the accusations against him and released private chats and lurid photos he had exchanged with Trindade.

The Sao Paulo state police also indicted Trindade's former husband, Estivens Alves, on fraud charges.
