Published on September 11, 2019, a report by The Star Newspaper highlighted the grievances of Kenya Airways pilots against the airline's management.
The Kenya Airlines Pilots Association (Kalpa) stated that even if pilots offered their services for free, Kenya Airways would still declare losses.
According to Kalpa general secretary Nyagah Murithi, the airline's management should stop looking for scapegoats in pilots and instead address the root causes of the financial woes.
One of the main issues cited by Kalpa was the airline's decision to increase frequencies without having the right crew size, leading to frequent flight cancellations.
The association also called for the government to address the pilot and crew shortage at the airline.
Interestingly, Kalpa expressed support for the nationalization of the airline if it would save the carrier, but emphasized that it should not be tied down like other state corporations.
