Published on September 11, 2019, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has announced the closure date for the public hearings of the Kenya-Somalia maritime dispute.
The hearings, which started on November 4, 2019, at the Peace Palace in The Hague, will conclude on November 8, 2019, as announced by the ICJ.
Kenya had requested a rescheduling of the sessions after asking for time to recruit a new legal defence team, which was granted by the ICJ.
The new legal team for Kenya includes Prof Payam Akhavan, Prof Vaughan Lowe QC, Prof Alan Boyle, Prof Mathias Forteau, Mr Karim Khan, and Ms Amy Sanders.
Kenya has less than 50 days to recruit a new team that will take on Somalia during the public hearings.
According to the ICJ, Somalia will present its case on November 4, followed by Kenya's response on November 6, with no sessions on November 5.
