Taco Bell Expands Vegetarian Options Nationwide ¶
On September 12, Taco Bell will launch its vegetarian menu nationwide, following a successful test run in Dallas, Texas in April 2019.
The menu includes four new options: Black Bean Crunchwrap Supreme, Black Bean Quesarito, 7-Layer Burrito, and Bean Burrito, all certified by the American Vegetarian Association (AVA).
These items join existing vegetarian options, including the Spicy Tostada, Cheesy Roll-up, Cheesy Bean & Rice Burrito, and Cheese Quesadilla, which are also AVA-certified.
According to Taco Bell, nine percent of all items ordered at the chain are either vegetarian or made vegetarian by substitution or removal, with 350 million vegetarian items sold annually.
For vegan customers, Taco Bell's items can be customized to be vegan by ordering them 'Fresco Style,' which replaces cheese and other non-vegan ingredients with pico de gallo.
The chain also features two American Vegetarian Association-certified vegan proteins (refried pinto beans and black beans) and a vegan ordering cheat sheet on its website.
