On September 10, 2019, a 26-year-old man, Javan Odhiambo Oduor, alias Ken Korir, alias Douglas Serem, was arraigned in Eldoret court for allegedly impersonating a police officer.

During the court proceedings, Serem stunned the court by introducing himself as an undercover military officer, claiming to be on an investigation mission in Eldoret.

Investigating Officer Anne Kaldale requested the court to grant her five days to carry out further investigation, citing that the suspect had used multiple identities, including Javan Odhiambo Oduor, Douglas Serem, and Ken Korir.

“The issue was raised to us on the diverse dates of September 3 and 7, that there was a man said to be a police officer attached to the DCI Eldoret and that he is said to have been having intentions of extorting money from the public,” Kaldale told the court.

The court ruled that Serem be remanded at Eldoret police station for five working days for completion of investigations, with the matter to be mentioned on September 13.
