On September 10, 2019, NBA legend Michael Jordan pledged $1 million to support relief efforts in the Bahamas, which was devastated by Hurricane Dorian.

According to his spokeswoman, Jordan's donation aims to help the people affected by the catastrophic storm, which has claimed at least 50 lives and displaced thousands.

"I am devastated to see the destruction that Hurricane Dorian has brought to the Bahamas, where I own property and visit frequently," Jordan said in a statement announcing his pledge.

"My heart goes out to everyone who is suffering and to those who have lost loved ones," he added.

As a frequent visitor to the Bahamas, Jordan expressed his hope that his donation would be of help as the island nation works to recover from the storm.

Notably, this is not the first time Jordan has donated to relief efforts. In 2018, he pledged $2 million to help with the aftermath of Hurricane Florence, which affected the Carolinas.
