IEBC Rebuffs McDonald Mariga's Kibra Parliamentary Bid ¶
McDonald Mariga's bid to contest the Kibra parliamentary seat has been rejected by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). The commission cited a failure to meet the required deadline for nomination.
Mariga had submitted his nomination papers on time, accompanied by Boni Khalwale, Lang'ata MP Nixon Korir, and Kibra MCA aspirant Anne Thumbi. However, IEBC officials were unable to verify his name on the voters' register, sparking concerns about his eligibility.
IEBC has given Mariga seven days to appeal the decision, which has left him with a slim chance of contesting the Kibra by-election scheduled for November 7.
Mariga had been cleared by Jubilee Party to contest the seat, but his nomination was rejected by IEBC. The commission has since cleared 15 other candidates to contest the seat.
IEBC's decision has left Mariga with a tough choice: to appeal the decision or to seek alternative ways to contest the seat.
