Wazalendo's title hopes have taken a significant blow after their 2-1 loss to Strathmore University on Sunday, which has stretched them out of reach of the season's crown.

With their first loss of the season, Wazalendo now trail defending champions Butali Warriors by a point, with two games in hand. Butali have staged a dream campaign, remaining the only unbeaten side in the elite league, with seven wins and three draws.

Wazalendo defender Dennis Burudi attributed their loss to a congested fixture schedule, which saw them play three games in eight days. 'Generally, I can say it was just a bad day in office. However, we played three games in a span of eight days, something I feel took a toll on us,' Burudi said.

Wazalendo will need to win all their remaining six fixtures to dethrone Butali Warriors, a task that Burudi acknowledges is uphill. 'At the moment, we are focused on winning the remaining matches. Everyone in the league is thinking of that as the head-to-head outcomes will make a huge difference at the end of the season,' he added.

The team will aim to return to winning ways when they travel to City Park to face Sailors in Saturday's 6.00pm fixture, a fairly balanced match with both teams boasting an equal number of home and away wins.
