According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Africa's air freight volumes have been on an upward trend since 2018, defying the global decline in air cargo demand.

While the world's air freight market is experiencing a slump, with all regions except Africa and Latin America showing a decline in demand, Africa's air carriers have recorded a 17% year-on-year growth in Average Freight Tonne Kilometers.

This impressive growth is attributed to the influx of inbound investment from the Asia-Pacific region, which has contributed to a 11.3% increase in cargo volumes over the past year.

As the world's air freight market continues to struggle, with mounting US-China trade tensions and interruptions at the Hong Kong airport contributing to the decline, Africa's air freight industry remains a beacon of hope.

As reported by IATA, the total freight capacity of the aviation industry has also seen an increase, with a 1.4% rise in industry-wide size over the past three months and a 2.6% year-on-year increase in Available Freight Tonne Kilometers (AFTKs).
