On September 10, 2019, Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper Party made a surprise announcement at its headquarters, selecting musician Jackson Makini, alias Prezzo, to run for the vacant Kibra parliamentary seat on its ticket.
Prezzo will be joining seven other candidates cleared to challenge for the seat, leaving many Kenyans shocked and with differing views on the announcement.
As seen on social media, some Kenyans were not surprised by the news, citing the list of candidates vying for the seat, which includes notable figures such as Babu Owino, Mohammed Ali, and Jaguar.
Wiper Kibra candidate is Prezzo. I have nothing against him but come on, Parliament? But then again, why not? Look who's there. Babu Owino, Mohammed Ali, Jaguar … And the governor of Nairobi is Mike Sonko. Let THAT sink in. There's no mystique. Anyone can be elected in Kenya?♀️ — Ciku Muiruri (@MissCiku) September 10, 2019
Prezzo's selection has sparked debate, with some questioning the decision to field a musician for the parliamentary seat.
