US President Donald Trump has been at the center of a Twitter spat with singer John Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen, with the President accusing the couple of being 'boring' and 'filthy mouthed'.

Trump's Twitter rant began with a boast about his role in passing the Criminal Justice Reform in the US, which he claimed was a major achievement that had eluded previous administrations, including that of former President Barack Obama.

"When all of the people pushing so hard for Criminal Justice Reform were unable to come even close to getting it done, they came to me as a group and asked for my help. I got it done with a group of Senators & others who would never have gone for it. Obama couldn’t come close," Trump tweeted on September 10, 2019.

However, Trump's tweet quickly turned into a personal attack on four prominent people of color, including Van Jones, Lester Holt, John Legend, and Chrissy Teigen, whom he accused of taking credit for the reform without contributing to its passage.

"A man named Van Jones and many others, were profusely grateful (at that time!). I SIGNED IT INTO LAW, no one else did, & Republicans deserve much credit. But now that it is passed, people that had virtually nothing to do with it are taking the praise. Guys like boring," Trump tweeted.

Trump's attack on Chrissy Teigen was particularly personal, with the President calling her 'filthy mouthed wife' and suggesting that she and her husband had only begun to praise the reform after it had been passed.

"Musician John Legend and his filthy mouthed wife, are talking now about how great it is – but I didn’t see them around when we needed help getting it passed. “Anchor” Lester Holt doesn’t even bring up the subject of President Trump or the Republicans when talking about," Trump posted.
