Wajir County journalists participated in a training program on ethical reporting ahead of the 2027 General Election, organized by Worthy Vision. The session, held alongside the inception meeting for the Kenya Community Engagement and Resilience Programme (KCERP), aimed to equip media professionals with skills to cover sensitive issues like peacebuilding, violent extremism, and community cohesion. Facilitators emphasized the importance of accuracy, impartiality, and accountability in reporting, particularly during politically charged periods. Participants included journalists from mainstream media, digital platforms, radio, print, and freelance outlets.

The training addressed the need for journalists to avoid content that could stigmatize communities or amplify extremist narratives. Ali, a facilitator, stressed that reporters must verify information and remain neutral to prevent conflict escalation. "Ethical journalism will be critical in promoting peaceful dialogue and informed public participation as we approach the 2027 elections," he said. The program also highlighted the media's role in amplifying positive stories, such as youth initiatives, interfaith dialogue, and women’s leadership, to foster social cohesion. KCERP, funded by the European Union and implemented with GCERF and ACT, seeks to prevent violent extremism through community-led approaches.

Worthy Vision underscored the importance of collaboration between media, communities, and stakeholders to advance peace and resilience in Wajir. A participating journalist noted the training provided practical insights into verification, professional ethics, and safety when covering sensitive issues. "Our work extends beyond reporting events; we must verify facts, give all sides a fair hearing, and consider the impact of our stories," the journalist said. The session urged participants to prioritize objectivity, source verification, and personal safety while covering election-related developments.

The initiative aligns with broader efforts to ensure responsible media coverage during the 2027 elections, emphasizing the role of journalism in safeguarding democratic processes and community relations. By reinforcing ethical standards, the training aims to mitigate risks associated with misinformation and polarizing content, fostering a more informed and cohesive public discourse in Wajir County.
