Youth Affairs and Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi has urged Kenyans to support investors and government projects, emphasizing their role in fostering economic transformation through job creation, value addition, and infrastructure development. Speaking during a tour of Kiriani, Mathioya Constituency, Mwangi cited the Sh2.2 trillion Dangote East Africa Petroleum Refinery in Lamu County as a pivotal investment expected to generate 60,000 jobs and stimulate related industries. The refinery, whose groundbreaking ceremony took place on September 30, 2026, will process 700,000 barrels of crude oil daily, marking a significant milestone in Kenya’s economic strategy.
Mwangi highlighted broader government interventions, including infrastructure projects like the completed Kiriani-Mugeka road, Kamacharia TVET hostels, and the Gakoe market under construction. He also noted agricultural reforms, such as subsidized fertilizers priced at Sh2,000 per 50-kilogramme bag, and investments in solar dryers for coffee factories, road upgrades, and value chain support for coffee, dairy, and tea sectors. These initiatives, he argued, are designed to enhance productivity and expand economic opportunities for local enterprises.
The PS reiterated the government’s commitment to its development agenda, stating that projects are prioritized based on community needs. “Development and improving the lives of our people is the government’s top priority,” he said, vowing to fulfill election promises. Mwangi also emphasized sports infrastructure, citing 33 stadiums, 37 sports academies, and 12 community grounds under construction to prepare Kenya for international events like the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and 2029 World Athletics Championships. Contractors, he added, are working around the clock to meet deadlines.
Mwangi’s call for public support coincided with ongoing efforts to strengthen Kenya’s economic and sporting landscape. His remarks underscored the government’s focus on attracting investments while addressing local challenges, from agricultural support to infrastructure gaps, to ensure sustainable growth and national development.
