National Assembly Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro and Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo have led a campaign in Mbita, Nyanza, highlighting government initiatives such as road construction, electricity access, and affordable housing as evidence of the Ruto administration's commitment to the region. Osoro, speaking at a forum for girls and women's education and development, noted that Nyanza had long been marginalized compared to other regions, with residents relying on solar power while Central Kenya enjoyed widespread electricity connections. He argued that the current administration was rectifying historical imbalances, stating, 'For the first time, President William Ruto has served Nyanza region, which was sidelined for a long time.'

Odhiambo, addressing Ruto directly, dismissed claims that public support needed to be persuaded, asserting that ongoing projects like the Rusinga Ring Road had already swayed public opinion. 'Those who are extorting money from you in the name of coming back to persuade people to support your government, let me tell you that the people are already persuaded,' she said. Homa Bay County Woman Representative Joyce Bensuda echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that political backing for Ruto remained robust among some residents and urging continuity in governance. 'When people chant one term, we say two terms. When they say Ruto must go, we say Ruto must come,' she declared, citing road construction projects on Mfangano road as proof of the administration's impact.

The campaign comes amid broader political dynamics in Nyanza, where opposition figures have criticized the government's development pace. However, Ruto's allies argue that the region's infrastructure gaps, such as limited electricity access, were systemic issues under previous regimes. Osoro acknowledged that while past administrations prioritized certain areas, the current government was now extending similar attention to Nyanza, a shift he framed as a corrective measure for historical neglect. 'We are not saying that these people should be denied these services, but what we are saying is that for the first time, President William Ruto has served Nyanza region,' he reiterated.

Public-interest implications of the campaign center on regional equity and the administration's re-election strategy. With Nyanza's political landscape increasingly tied to Ruto's agenda, allies' efforts to frame development as a mandate for continuity underscore the interplay between infrastructure progress and electoral politics. The focus on projects like the Rusinga Ring Road and Mfangano road highlights how tangible improvements are being leveraged to bolster public support, even as challenges in service delivery persist in parts of the region.
