Residents in Kericho now have access to faster police clearance services following the deployment of a Multi-Biometric Identification System (MBIS) at the Kericho Huduma Centre. The system, installed by a technical team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi, aims to enhance biometric identification and improve processing efficiency for Police Clearance Certificates. The installation was led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Samson Ireri, who emphasized the initiative’s role in modernizing public service delivery.

Kericho Huduma Centre Manager Peter Liaulo described the MBIS as a pivotal step in the government’s digital transformation agenda. “This technology will enhance service delivery, reduce delays, and make accessing government services more convenient for residents,” Liaulo stated. He highlighted that the system would enable locals to obtain DCI services without traveling to Nairobi, aligning with Huduma Kenya’s mission to bring services closer to citizens.

The MBIS, part of DCI’s broader efforts to digitize operations, uses multiple biometric identifiers to streamline verification processes. Liaulo noted the system would address growing demand for Police Clearance Certificates, which are required for employment, travel, education, and official purposes. “Efficient processing is critical for residents relying on these certificates for personal and professional needs,” he said.

The installation was officially commissioned by Kericho Deputy County Commissioner Stella Wanyela, who presented the first certificate to a customer. Wanyela praised the technology as a “boost to service delivery” and a key development in improving access to government services. Beatrice Chelagat, Head of Policy and Legal at Huduma Kenya, also attended the event, underscoring the initiative’s significance in the one-stop service model.

Liaulo reiterated the center’s commitment to innovation, stating, “Huduma Kenya is about the customer. Every improvement must make services easier, faster, and more convenient.” He urged residents to utilize the upgraded facilities while adhering to application procedures, assuring them of continued collaboration with DCI and other agencies to ensure professional and efficient service delivery.

The Kericho installation is part of a national rollout of biometric technology at DCI service points. The government aims to enhance identification accuracy, reduce processing times, and expand access to critical services. This aligns with broader digital transformation goals to make public services more accessible and citizen-centric.

With the new system, residents face reduced waiting times and lower costs associated with obtaining Police Clearance Certificates. Liaulo emphasized that the initiative reflects the government’s investment in technology to benefit ordinary citizens. “Our responsibility is to ensure services are delivered efficiently and that the public reaps the intended advantages,” he said. The Kericho Huduma Centre remains a focal point for innovation in public service delivery under Huduma Kenya’s framework.

The deployment of the MBIS underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for improved governance. As more services transition to digital platforms, Huduma Kenya’s one-stop model continues to serve as a benchmark for accessible, efficient public service delivery across Kenya.

The project also highlights the importance of inter-agency collaboration, with DCI, Huduma Kenya, and local authorities working together to implement solutions that meet public needs. Liaulo concluded, “This system is another step toward achieving our objective of making government services more responsive and user-friendly.”

The success of the Kericho initiative is expected to inform future expansions of biometric technology in other regions. By prioritizing efficiency and accessibility, the government aims to set a precedent for modernizing public service delivery nationwide. Residents are encouraged to engage with the upgraded facilities to experience the benefits of this technological advancement.

As the digital transformation agenda progresses, the Kericho Huduma Centre stands as a testament to the potential of technology in enhancing public service delivery. With ongoing efforts to integrate innovation, the center remains dedicated to meeting the evolving needs of its constituents while supporting national development goals.
