On September 28th, October 5th, and October 12th, the 38th edition of the Impala Floodies Rugby Tournament will take place at Impala Grounds. The event has been boosted by a KES 3 million sponsorship from BLAZE by Safaricom, up from last year's KES 1.8 million.
BLAZE by Safaricom has been sponsoring the tournament for the fourth consecutive year. The sponsorship includes KES 1 million in cash and an additional KES 2 million in airtime, prizes, pitch branding, and a fully-kitted media centre.
According to Michael Joseph, Safaricom CEO, BLAZE seeks to inspire young Kenyans to pursue unconventional careers. By supporting young sportsmen and women, BLAZE aims to make Kenya a great hub of Rugby talent through its G.R.I.T (Greatness Requires Internal Toughness) message.
Impala Floodies will feature teams from high school to university to senior rugby teams as well as women's rugby teams. The tournament attracted over 8,000 spectators in 2018 and is expected to be a great showcase of sports talents.
Bob Asiyo, Chairman of Impala Saracens Rugby Club, expressed gratitude to Safaricom's BLAZE for its support. The sponsorship has created opportunities for many and enabled the discovery and nurturing of talent that eventually join the Kenya Cup league.
