Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi and industrialist Dr. Manu Chandaria have been nominated for the Unstoppable Africa Awards, joining eight other Kenyans in the inaugural pan-African recognition platform. Both are vying for the Unstoppable Community Builder of the Year award, with their nominations highlighting their philanthropic and community-driven initiatives. The event, organized by the Global Africa Business Initiative, aims to celebrate African leadership across governance, business, innovation, and social impact. Omondi, a comedian and philanthropist, and Chandaria, an industrialist and humanitarian, are the sole Kenyan contenders in the Community Builder category, according to organisers.
The Kenyan delegation spans multiple sectors, including politics, entertainment, and education. Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi is nominated in the governance category, while Cabinet Secretaries Beatrice Askul Moe and Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku represent the ministerial category. Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa is among the legislative nominees. The creative industry is also well-represented, with comedians Crazy Kennar and Jaymo De Cin, and producer Andrew Kibe shortlisted for Content Creator of the Year. Musician Bien, CEO Mark Ogendi of Kenya Utalii College, and Dr. Anita Nyanjong are nominated in separate categories, while actress Lupita Nyong’o and marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge feature in the Brand Ambassador of the Year category.
Public voting for the awards, which closes on 5 October, will be combined with evaluations by an Awards Academy of African professionals. The Nairobi event will bring together business leaders, diplomats, and creatives to spotlight African achievements. Organisers emphasized the awards’ role in amplifying platforms for African-led innovation and enterprise. The Unstoppable Africa initiative, part of the Global Africa Business Initiative, focuses on sectors like digital transformation, sports, and the creative industries as drivers of economic growth across the continent.
The nominations underscore Kenya’s broad representation in the awards, with contenders competing against nominees from South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Rwanda, and Egypt.
