On September 9, 2019, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro was arrested following an altercation with Nominated MP Maina Kamanda at Gitui Catholic Church in Kiharu. The incident sparked chaos, and youth in Murang'a town lit bonfires in protest of his arrest outside the St James All Marty's Anglican Church.

However, police failed to prosecute Nyoro as indicated, with Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai ordering his file to be reviewed by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji for guidance before taking any action.

Appearing in Murang'a court, Nyoro's lawyers, MPs Alice Wahome (Kandara), Gichimu Githinji (Gichugu), and Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata, told Resident Magistrate Ms Sheila Nyaga that Nyoro had presented himself as directed by police.

State counsel Sebastian Mutinda informed the court that his office was yet to receive the police file containing charges against the MP, stating, 'For now, we do not have a case against him.'

Magistrate Nyaga noted that Nyoro had appeared as directed by the police and directed him to await any charges preferred against him, stating, 'For now, there are no charges preferred against Nyoro.'
