Published on September 10, 2019, the DCI is investigating a Sh300 million tender at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, involving the procurement of screening machines. The tender, which was awarded to Ms Magnate Ventures, has raised concerns over the quality of the machines.
According to Inspector of Police Samuel Kirichu, the lead investigator, some of the screening machines broke down immediately after installation, raising doubts about their quality. "Preliminary investigations show that some of the screening facilities broke down immediately after installation. Despite the breakdown of some of the facilities, and some missing at the site, there is evidence that the contract was fully paid in the said account (Magnate's account)," Kirichu claimed.
The DCI is seeking to scrutinize the tender documents, including the appointment letters and job descriptions of key officials at the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA). The investigation is also looking into how Magnate Ventures clinched the tender and what the specifications of the machines were.
The DCI has alleged that the tender involves a suspected conspiracy to commit a felony. The investigation is ongoing, and the DCI is working to uncover the truth behind the tender.
