The Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU) has donated scholastic materials and food supplies to Happy Times Child Care Initiative in Luwero as part of its community outreach efforts. The donation, delivered during a visit by an IBAU delegation, included educational resources and provisions to address the facility’s needs. Happy Times, operational since 2006, provides shelter, education, and care for children who have lost parents, been abandoned, or require additional support. The center also offers vocational training in tailoring, baking, and other skills to empower vulnerable youth and community members.
During the visit, Happy Times Director Joy Namigadde highlighted challenges in feeding children with diverse needs, noting that some arrive in poor nutritional condition, complicating care efforts. She emphasized the center’s work with abandoned infants and its commitment to holistic support. Namigadde praised IBAU for the donation, stating that the materials would alleviate financial burdens and urged continued collaboration. The facility’s head teacher, Justin Musana, briefed the delegation on its operations, underscoring the critical role of external partnerships in sustaining its mission.
IBAU Acting Chief Executive Officer Christopher Bakesiga Mugisha stated the visit aimed to deepen the association’s understanding of the center’s challenges and inform future support. Public Relations Director Christopher Ssengendo described the initiative as part of IBAU’s corporate social responsibility efforts beyond its core insurance sector role. He encouraged children to pursue education and diverse careers, emphasizing the donation’s focus on improving welfare and academic opportunities. Ssengendo noted the association plans to maintain engagement with Happy Times and explore additional support avenues.
The donation occurs amid broader struggles faced by organizations aiding vulnerable children, including food insecurity, healthcare access, and educational gaps. Happy Times’ vocational programs aim to foster self-reliance, but the center continues to seek resources to meet rising demands.
