Prudential Uganda is expanding its professional advisory network as MDRT membership surges across Africa, reflecting growing industry standards and financial planning awareness. The insurer reported 41 advisers in Uganda qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) in 2025, contributing to a regional total of 275 qualifiers in the first half of 2026, up from 662 in 2025. This growth underscores Prudential Africa’s emergence as a leading MDRT market, with operations in Nigeria and Ghana ranking among the 2026 Global Top 100 MDRT companies. MDRT, an international benchmark for life insurance and financial services excellence, now counts Prudential plc as its premier sponsor through a three-year global partnership launched in 2025.

The expansion aligns with Prudential Africa’s focus on professionalizing its adviser force to meet rising demand for financial guidance. Emmanuel Mokobi Aryee, CEO of Prudential Africa, highlighted that African families are increasingly prioritizing financial planning, creating opportunities for advisers to impact communities. He noted Africa has become Prudential’s fastest-growing MDRT community globally, emphasizing the role of a robust adviser network in expanding access to quality advice and raising industry standards. “By growing our agency force, we are serving more customers and helping raise professional standards in the industry,” Aryee stated.

Prudential Uganda’s advisers undergo a structured pathway to MDRT qualification, combining recruitment, product training, needs-based advisory coaching, mentorship, and digital tools. Tetteh Ayitevie, CEO of Prudential Uganda, emphasized the importance of professional financial advice in addressing Uganda’s underdeveloped life insurance market. “Life insurance still has significant room to grow, and quality financial advice is central to changing that,” he said. The company aims to position advisers as trusted professionals capable of addressing Ugandan families’ financial realities, including education costs, income protection, and long-term planning.

The growth of Prudential Africa’s adviser network is supported by its parent company, Prudential plc, which operates the world’s second-largest MDRT agency force. In its half-year results for June 2026, Prudential plc reported an 8% increase in new business profit to $1.384 billion, with new business margins rising to 40%. Agency-generated business accounted for 53% of total new business profit, while new business profit per active agent grew 9% year-on-year. These figures highlight the strategic importance of a professional adviser network to Prudential’s growth.

Prudential Africa now employs approximately 12,000 advisers across Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Ghana, and Nigeria—a 71% increase over five years. The company serves 2.6 million customers, up from 1.7 million in 2021, as it seeks to bridge Africa’s insurance protection gap. In Uganda, life insurance penetration stands at 0.31%, with insurance density at $5 per person annually, according to Prudential data. The insurer is investing in training, technology, and adviser capabilities to improve access to financial protection and long-term planning for Ugandan families.

Prudential’s initiatives include partnerships with organizations like the Red Cross, which trained over 18,000 boda boda riders in road safety and first aid. The company also launched three new family financial security products and expanded joint health insurance with Stanbic. Additionally, Prudential Uganda’s actuarial talent development program saw 19 Makerere University students graduate in 2026. These efforts reflect a broader strategy to align with global standards while addressing local economic challenges.

The surge in MDRT membership and adviser growth positions Prudential Uganda to play a pivotal role in transforming Africa’s financial services landscape. By fostering professional excellence and community engagement, the insurer aims to empower families with the tools to navigate financial uncertainties and achieve long-term stability. As Prudential Africa continues to expand, its focus on quality advice and industry leadership remains central to its mission of enhancing financial security across the continent.
