Rubanda District police are investigating the death of Dennis Mujuni, a 25-year-old man found hanging in an abandoned house in Hamurwa Town Council on September 26, 2026. The body of Mujuni, also known as Sadam, was discovered at 4:00 pm approximately 100 meters from his home in Hamurwa Village, Rubanda District, according to Kigezi Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime. Authorities confirmed the investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
Mujuni’s family conflict reportedly began on September 18 when he alleged that relatives, including his mother, were insulting him over claims he had sold a goat and spent the proceeds alone. Tumushime stated Mujuni threatened to take his own life if the harassment continued. The man was last seen on September 24 walking toward Hamurwa Town Council, with his body discovered two days later. Police have not yet released details about potential suspects or the cause of death.
Tumushime emphasized the need for individuals facing personal crises to seek support from trusted networks or professionals, citing the case as a tragic example of unresolved family disputes escalating to fatal outcomes. "We appeal to the public to always seek counselling and share problems with local leaders, family members, and professional counsellors instead of resorting to taking one’s life," he said. The case has sparked discussions about mental health resources and conflict resolution mechanisms in rural communities.
The investigation remains active as police continue to gather information. No arrests have been reported, and the police have not yet determined whether the death constitutes suicide or another form of unlawful act. Local leaders have been urged to address familial tensions proactively, while the community awaits further updates from authorities.
