Published on September 10, 2019, SportPesa, a giant betting firm, has come out to reiterate its commitment to the development of sports in Kenya.

The company had earlier withdrawn its partnership with several Kenya Premier League clubs, including Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, in August following a tussle with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) over tax evasion.

However, in a recent statement, SportPesa's Head of Communication, Jean Kariuki, said the company will review its business position and determine the areas of sponsorship that it will be able to support.

"We will review the business position pursuant to this and determine the areas of sponsorships that we will be able to support," Kariuki said.

"We remain committed to sports development in the country and we will aim to restart sponsorship of all our previous agreements, to the best of our ability," she added.

Earlier, SportPesa had announced the cancellation of all sports sponsorship deals, citing a challenging business environment.
