Geita District Commissioner Hashimu Komba emphasized the Economic Opportunities Forum, organized by Tanzania Standard (Newspapers) Limited (TSN) during the ninth Mining Technology Exhibition, as a vital platform for translating Vision 2050 into actionable steps. Speaking on behalf of Regional Commissioner Alexander Mnyeti, Komba stated the forum equips citizens with knowledge about regional opportunities, enabling them to address financial challenges and bolster household economies. He urged participants to engage with expert presentations, noting that Geita’s potential extends beyond mining to agriculture, fishing, livestock, and energy, with Lake Victoria offering fisheries opportunities like cage fish farming and electrification supporting small industries and gold-processing ventures.
Acting TSN Managing Director Majaliwa Christopher underscored the forum’s role in interpreting Vision 2050, which aims to build a one-trillion-US-dollar economy by 2050. He stressed that citizen awareness of opportunities and their contributions to national development are essential. The event, he said, not only highlights business and investment prospects but also facilitates dialogue between citizens and experts, while showcasing government achievements. TSN’s collaboration with public media, such as the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC), was praised by TBC Director-General Asha Dachi, who called Geita a potential model for implementing Vision 2050 through public-private partnerships and comprehensive economic utilization.
Assistant Regional Administrative Secretary Charles Chacha revealed Geita’s Gross Regional Product averaged 10.4 trillion Tanzanian shillings, with per capita income reaching 3 million shillings. He linked the forum and Mining Technology Exhibition to promoting investment in mining, agriculture, and livestock, noting cross-sectoral growth potential. Chacha highlighted that advancements in agriculture could spur industrial development and trade, while productive livestock farming aims to maximize output from fewer animals. The event, he said, underscores Geita’s strategic role in Tanzania’s broader economic strategy.
The forum’s emphasis on empowering youth, women, and marginalized groups through government funds for agriculture, livestock, and mining reflects a broader push for inclusive growth. Komba’s call for active participation—‘opportunities will not find us while we are sitting where we are’—echoes the event’s core message: that citizen engagement is critical to realizing Vision 2050’s goals.
